My opinion
Now I think it is getting a world wide trend to appreciate the history we can feel from building
as opposed to appreciate the new building.
As I wrote about Tokyo station on this blog previously, it has been renewed recently and new materials are used in most of the part of the building. But you will encounter old walls the way it was at multiple parts of the station.
It has me think not only a long history of this station but also a long history of Japan.
Remaining old thing the way it was and utilize it has really important meaning.
Not only it is cool but also Eco-friendly and thought-provoking.
It has a good effect to link now and then.

ENGAWA
I'd like to introduce Japanese traditional architectural part for house.
It is called "Engawa". According to dictionary it said "veranda-like porch".
This corridor is exposed out side.
If you open the door between "engawa" and inner side, inner side and outside are conected then you can feel an air of openness. There is no border between them.
Moreover, if the building is surrounded by a beautiful garden, you can enjoy the beautiful view inside the house without a border.
http://ydo.blogzine.jp/blog/images/2011/05/08/p4275623.jpg
This corridor isn't too much for walking but for sitting enjoying the view outside.
http://ydo.blogzine.jp/blog/images/2011/05/08/p4275623.jpg
Almost every temple has this "engawa" but recently Japanese building is getting westernized and now houses built new doesn't have this part.
http://dom.jtb.co.jp/yado/photo2/LL/4/4343022/43430221000000024.jpg
My opinion
It is really sad to face the fact that Japanese tradition is getting faded as Japan becomes modern and like overseas.
But really cool thing will happen if we find the way to coexist with new design and overseas design.
Like this picture above, the combination of furniture designed by foreign designer and Japanese traditional "Engawa" made a good and interesting chemistry!
I 'm interesting in mixing overseas design and Japanese traditional design as we would mix two different materials in the science class. Sometime the consequence is bad but amazing thing can happen!

There is a FARM inside the restaurant!!
This is the picture of a part of the world famous fast food restaurant "subway" in Osaka,Japan.

They are growing vegetables inside the restaurant!!
Vegetables which harvested inside the restaurant is consumed there.
It stir up the feeling of curiosity!! Even though you don't like vegetable, curiosity for trying them must born!
(picture is from http://www.facebook.com/subwayjp)
My opinion
I think this is really interesting idea! There are a lot of people who lives in urban city has nothing to do with growing what they actually eat. There are people who have never understand how and where the vegetable we eat are growing.
It is good place for questioning and re-recognize our diet and importance of food.

a transpharent chair
Today,in the train the door was opened at the stop I've never got off.
Then I found nice chair at the plat form!!But this wasn't the station I got off.
I succeeded to take picture in just a few second!
This is a wall inside of the station.
It's not a graffiti. It is official art paint.↓
